It's On! The Memorial Day Blog Hop for Operation Write Home!

It's Memorial Day weekend here in the States and that means it's a special time set aside to honor our beloved Heroes.  We salute those brave men and women--past and present--who have had the courage to serve our country.

Operation Write Home is a wonderful organization that supports our military (and their family and friends) by providing hope and encouragement in the form of some beautiful handmade cards (for our troops to send back home) as well as by sending Any Hero mail to those men and women who might need some love from home.  They also host an annual blog hop each year and you get to join in the fun!

To visit the many blogs participating (corporate and private) please click HERE!

2013's Blog Hop will focus on sketches again and also the theme is Thank You.  We really want to up the ante on Any Hero cards, so that's what I am focusing on this weekend.

It's late here and I was short on time due to celebrating another victory in our lives (congrats niece Britt on your graduation!) and so I made a simple Any Hero card to go in the next package.  It needs some punching up and I'll play with it some more and update when I can, but don't want to miss out on the fun, so here you go!

This card is based on the OWH sketch #32 and I used Bazill Moody Blue for the base, and top layer and Bazill Peanut Cluster for the image, middle layer and sentiment layer.  Inks are SU! Night of Navy and Real Red.  The stamped images are from Stampin' Up! (some older sets) and the patterned paper is from Authentique (Pride collection).  Technique, simply used DTP for the edges since the dotted paper looked "smudged" too. ~~ I need to go in and touch up the sentiment and I'm considering changing out that eyelet for a smaller bronzed star brad.  Hmm....

As I said, this is a cute but hurried card that needs a little love and I'll be posting more throughout the weekend if you happen to make it through the rest of the blogs and want to come back and visit. Again, you can reach those wonderful sites by starting right HERE.

Also, don't forget to sign up for your chance to win a 6x6 pad of Lost & Found from me!  Go HERE for the information!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and don't forget to thank a hero for their service!

Hugs,

  81. What an adorable card. I love the image. It is just too cute. The papers are also so neat and work so well with the image. What would I write inside. Well. Since it is for A hero. I would have to say Thank you for all that you do and all that you have done. thanks for joining in the hop.

  82. Your patriotic bears cards are darling. Thanks for supporting OWH!

  83. I just knew that was an older SU! stamp. I have a few older bears, too. The card is great & I think replacing the eyelet would make a difference. I suggest a wide ribbon tied with a square knot under the small panel to break up the pattern some more. Great card and I also liked the next card you posted, too!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I do the same thing, finish a card then look at it and try to decide what else it needs, surprise myself when I leave it on my stamp table for a few days, come back to it, and 'snap' think of just what finishing touch the card needs! :-)

  85. Thanks, everyone! It was late and I was hurried, I've been coloring bears for two days now and think I have it. Third time's a charm, right? LOL. Look for the updated version tonight or tomorrow. And look for the drawing winner tomorrow! We have enough for TWO WINNERS!!!

  86. Love the image with the bears - the sparing use of coloring really sets it off!

  89. OH my gosh...I LOVE the bears...they are just too stinking cute! I wouldn't use this for an any hero card...I would send it blank so a soldier could send it back to his son back home who is the "man of the house" while he's gone. Thanks for sharing and for the chance to win your blog candy.

  92. The little bears are darling! I like the musical score print behind the image panel. I think the yellow star looks all right, but I do have to agree with you that a metallic brad may coordinate better with the rest of the card. I wouldn't rework the card just for that, though.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Very cute! I love the flower embellishment on the flag :) I would definitely use this card to write an AnyHero card, and I would tell them how much I appreciate all that they've given up so that I can enjoy what I have!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I really like the happy, celebratory look to your card with the bears in a wagon. Cute!!

Since this is a card to a hero, I would write on the inside:

    (FRONT: You're my hero!)

INSIDE: "So we made a little bear-icade of happiness for you!"

This sentiment would remind the hero that he/she is not alone and that thought might bring some protection from loneliness and homesickness....like a barricade provides protection.
