OWH Sunday Sketch Challenge #175

Good morning!  I didn't get this up yesterday, but managed to complete the Sunday Sketch Challenge on Sunday.   Woot, woot!

This Operation Write Home sketch challenge blog post can be found HERE.  I encourage you to go read it and click the internal link to read about the wonderful OWH cardmaker who has left such a wonderful legacy and touched so many lives.

Here's this week's sketch:

It's a fairly straight-forward sketch, making it really great for you beginners out there, or even those long-timers who have just run out of ideas!  :)

Thursday night on OWHtv (Episode #102, I believe), Sandy did a very helpful (sweet'n'simple) instructional on using patterned papers together, not exactly a strength of mine so I decided to work on that during this challenge.  Since I had so many papers included, my card does not have a sentiment.  Didn't want to make it too busy.

INFO:
Plain cardstock:  Bazzill Sour Lemon and Bazzill Licorice Twist
Patterned cardstock:  Authentique - Renew collection
Misc.: Grosgrain ribbon, jolees 3-d sticker

What a fun way to start the week!   I hope you participated and if not, there is still time.  Get off the computer and into the craft room and make some beautiful cards with the sketch!

Happy Crafting!

  1. Congratulations for using that big, bold paper design for your card! I'd have left that one in the pad because I wouldn't know what to do with it, but you made a gorgeous card! I love those ribbon loops behind the flower, and those 3 tiny bows too! Nice job on the sketch!

    1. Thank you so much! You know, I struggle with the tinier patterns in paper, lol. Maybe we should collaborate and I'd use the bigger ones and you could use the smaller ones, lol. Those tiny bows...been a while since I've made tiny bows but they just seemed to be called for here. :) Thanks so much for stopping by and encouraging me with such kind words!

  2. I love the papers in this card and the way you used the ribbon loops behind the flower to make "leaves."

    1. Thank you! The flower seemed too plain without them. Wanted to do more, but alas, need to go get some more thin grosgrain. Thanks so much for the encouragement with your comment!

  3. Great use of papers! (I'm addicted to papers and have started trying to go the opposite way, to more white, which is a challenge for me.). I LOVE the way you used those darling bows in place of brads!

    1. Now see, we are opposites too! I'm used to doing the more plain things and stamping on them instead of using patterned papers, lol. Maybe we could push each other to continue stretching ourselves! :) Best wishes in your endeavor. I'm sure you'll do great. And thanks! I love ribbon, perhaps a bit too much. But really, what girl can't have too much ribbon? LOL Thanks for the comment encouragement!

  4. You did a great job of mixing the patterned paper. I struggle so much with that. Pretty papers, great use of the ribbon behind the flower and just an overall nice, soothing card. thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you, Cissy! Did you get to watch the video Sandy made on Thursday? If not, I really encourage you to do so. It helped me so much. I've always been a "clean" card maker, not really incorporating those papers because I just never really got it. She made it easy. I'd love to try some more, and would love to encourage each other in this! Thanks again for the compliments. Soothing is good, I like that. :)

    1. Thank you, Debbie. It started out as a regular square, but didn't "pop" so I used grosgrain ribbon and wrapped it like a present and while it broke up the inchies into individual parts, I think it looks much better than it did the other way. Perhaps it was the papers I used or what. Thanks so much for stopping by and encouraging me.

    1. Thanks, Jessie! If you're going to do something, go bold, right? LOL. I'm a ribbon fiend, and promised my husband I would start using it up before buying more, so what better way than bows? LOL. Thanks so much for the comment encouragement.

    1. Linda, it really is a yummy paper pad. If you can get that pad, I recommend it. Bought it because it looked like one that could be used for both feminine and masculine cards! Now I just need to get into a masculine card-making mindset, lol. Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing encouragement!
